Event Information

Tony Kushner’s critically acclaimed drama A Bright Room Called Day opens the47th season of the Detroit Mercy Theatre Company Nov. 3-19.  Performances will be at The Marlene Boll Theatre inside of the Boll Family YMCA in downtown Detroit.

A Bright Room Called Day examines unstable times in concert with alternative ideologies.  It follows a group of artists and political activists struggling to preserve themselves in 1930’s Berlin as the Weimar Republic surrenders to the seduction of fascism. The poetic world of the play moves beyond the bounds of historical reality and brings into stark relief the discomfiting similarities between then and now. It challenges audiences to remember that although evil may seem inevitable it is never irresistible.

 A Bright Room Called Day will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 3, 4, 10, 11, 17 and 18 and 3 p.m. on November 5, 12 and 19.
